Get Your AC Ready for Summer
Sunday, 15 April 2012 10:34

Is your system ready for the hot months ahead?   Make sure it is in best possible condition to keep you cool and comfortable.   Here are the things to consider.

Is the filter clean?   Change or clean your filter regularly.   It is important that the filter allow the air to flow freely over the evap coil, otherwise your air conditioner cannot produce cool air for you because the system is "smothered" by the filter.

Is the drain line from the air handler to the outside (a pvc pipe) allowing the system to eliminate the condensation?  (The condensation is the humidity removed from your home when the air conditioning functions correctly.  This water drips from the evap coil into a pan that drains via the pvc pipe to the outside of your home near the condenser.)   If the pan becomes full of condensation (water), the water safety or float switch may shut your system off to keep the pa from overflowing.    See our troubleshooting guide to find out how you can clean your own drain line if you like to do it yourself.   Or call Lloyd's and we will be glad to take care of this for you.

Are there ants or other insects making a home around your condensing unit outside?   Ants can cause contactors not to function resulting in an outage.   Keep bugs away and your ac will be less likely to have an outage due due to insects.

Weed eaters can destroy the wiring for your condensing unit, so take care to protect your condenser from lawn equipment.   Heavy plant growth or weeds around the condenser should be removed so the unit can function properly.
